Community Health Assessment

Listening to Our Community. Responding to Its Needs.

The Samaritan Behavioral Center

At Samaritan Behavioral Center, we believe meaningful behavioral healthcare begins with understanding the people and communities we serve.

Established in 2009, Samaritan Behavioral Center is a nonprofit, 55-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital serving individuals and families throughout Detroit and Wayne County. Our team provides 24-hour, 7-day-a-week psychiatric and mental health services to people experiencing a behavioral health crisis, with a focus on individualized, patient-centered care in a safe and supportive environment.

Our Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) helps us better understand the behavioral health needs, challenges, strengths, and opportunities within the communities we serve. By listening to patients, families, community members, healthcare providers, and community organizations, we can align our services and resources with the needs that matter most.

Our Commitment to Community Health

Our vision is to be a trusted partner in psychiatric care and a leader in quality mental health services.

To achieve that vision, we recognize the importance of building strong, trusted relationships with our patients and community partners. Detroit and Wayne County are diverse communities, each with unique characteristics, challenges, needs, and strengths.

The CHNA process gives Samaritan Behavioral Center an opportunity to listen to those voices and use what we learn to inform our practices, policies, partnerships, and allocation of resources.

Our goal is simple: to help improve the behavioral health and overall mental health of the communities we serve.
